The Fleeing Enemy: After his army was defeated by the Israelite leader Barak, Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was a peace treaty between his king and Jael’s family.
The Deception: Jael welcomed Sisera into her tent, offered him milk to drink, and covered him with a blanket to make him feel secure.
The Act: As Sisera lay sleeping from exhaustion, Jael took a tent peg (translated as a “nail” in the King James Version) and a hammer, driving the peg through his temple into the ground, killing him.
Significance: This fulfilled the prophecy of Deborah that the Lord would sell Sisera into the hands of a woman (Judges 4:9), highlighting themes of divine intervention and using ordinary means to deliver Israel.
